In this screenshot, I am showing the steps for exporting the final product of the ident out of Final Cut Pro. I chose the default master file, and made sure the settings were up to great quality before proceeding to save the video ("Ident 1 Final Edit") to the assigned folder I can easily access.
As you can see here in this screenshot, I am now uploading the final edit to YouTube. At the bottom of the image you can locate the uploading process where the video will afterwards show and I can choose my desired thumbnail and change the title if needed. After everything is done and tidy, I successfully uploaded the ident.
Here I am showing evidence of the editing process for the idents:
IDENT 1
In this screenshot I am editing the outro where the channel logo is shown. I decided to not just show the cardboard logo, but to recreate the actual CBBC logo appearing. Here is a visual example of what I mean.
(Watch from 1:03 to 1:06)
To smoothly transition to the appearance I added a simple page-turning transition from the presets section. I also made sure to mute all the footage except from a couple scenes, were I only decreased the volume, in order to keep some background noise I thought would be appropriate to bring more detail.
IDENT 2
In this screenshot, you can see I have gathered all my footage together that are going to be officially used for the ident, I am planning to make sure everything syncs up with the remixed soundtrack I produced. There are little transitions used, with the outro being the only scene with one, for the channel logo.
Here I have added the soundtrack, and I am sizing down any scenes that go for too long so everything can fit the soundtrack. I then muted all of the footage as the background noise is not needed, there are sound effects in the soundtrack to bring more energy.
In this screenshot, I have recreated the logo appearance and added a smooth, swiping transition. this helped make the ident look more professional and polished with the editing. Afterwards, I made sure to keep the overlays level and make sure that the ident's duration wasn't too much over the 30 second limit.
In this screenshot, i have used a converter website, to change a sound effect youtube video into an mp3 file; and use it in my ident. An example shown is for my first ident, where the sound of meowing must be heard, so I gathered a couple different videos of meowing an ran them through a converter in order to use them for my ident soundtrack.
Before going straight back onto Final cut Pro, I found that I needed to sort out the length of the CBBC theme. In order to mix the soundtrack and make it so everything is smooth; I used Logic Pro X to add slight reverb to some tracks while also cutting and fixing the main theme tune so it fit the 30 second length. I did this process for both of my idents, with this particular screenshot being for my second ident.
In this screenshot, you can see I am now on Final Cut Pro where I can now import both tracks to their assigned idents, where the soundtrack is perfect and ready to fit in with the videos.
From the focus groups, I was able to find out what went well in my idents and what needed improvement. Here is the feedback gathered in my audience research:
IDENT 1:
What went well?
The lighting was very good
Meowing sound effects are suitable
Music is fun
Improvements to be made?
Get rid of the loud sound effects, and certain scenes
Add in the channel logo
Add some text to make video clearer
Make the sound smoother
IDENT 2:
What went well?
Very cute
Looks mysterious with dim lighting and acting
Made sense
Improvements to be made?
The music transition is awkward, so fix to make smoother
Silence unnecessary background noise
Add a voiceover at the end
When considering the advice given for the idents, I am going to improve the following:
IDENT 1:
Get rid of the loud sound effects, and certain scenes
Add in the channel logo
Make the sound smoother
IDENT 2:
The music transition is awkward, so fix to make smoother
Silence unnecessary background noise
The reason why I decided to choose not to follow through with certain improvements (Add in a voiceover, add in text) is because I felt that suddenly showing text and and voiceovers would've been too sudden and with the time I had. eft on the project, I unfortunately would've not had the time to be able to add in a perfect voiceover for the idents.
